The Importance of State-Based WorkAren't we sick of circus-style politics? Ya know, when a candidate or political party parachutes in a campaign to set up tents for Election Day just to take them down the next day? New Era Colorado is a homegrown, state-based organization that is run by people from our communities. We believe nobody knows what issues matter to Coloradans more than other Coloradans. Full Spectrum Political EngagementWe're not looking to win elections, we're looking for a cultural shift towards a more hands-on democracy. Democracy is much more than just voting and definitely more than just voting every four years. New Era Colorado is a full-spectrum political engagement organization. From the nuts and bolts of drafting policy to canvassing door-to-door to registering voters, we do it all. A Volunteer-Based Movement Young people are ideal for real grassroots work. Not many of us can afford to donate to a candidate or political cause, but we can donate our time and passion in the form of face-to-face voter contact. Because of this, a dollar spent at New Era is a dollar well-spent. An hour of New Era staff time translates into literally hundreds of hours of volunteer time. Youth-Focused. Youth-Directed. Young people talking to young people. That's our philosophy. We were started by a group of disgruntled young college-grads who wanted more opportunities to get political. We're still run and directed by young people (slightly less disgruntled now) and are committed to creating these opportunities for young Coloradans whether they're students, workers, young professionals, or just young at heart. (p.s. Steve is losing his hair a bit, but if he asks, tell him he's still young) New PoliticsA new generation calls for new politics. We're not democrats and we're not republicans. We support progressive solutions to the real problems that face our generation's future. The old style of politics can't survive in today's information-rich and inter-connected world. So, we combine innovative and new technologies with the tried and true face-to-face communication to create a new kind of politics that speaks to young people. "Why do you have a picture of Friedrich Nietzsche?" Thats a good question considering Nietzsche generally represents nihilism and a strong-sense of apathy towards the world (which we don't represent). Basically, we just thought he had a good mug for our philosophy page. That's it.
